In a post shared on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, addressed rumours that he was served a legal demand by Peter Obi and his lawyers, challenging them to take legal action over allegedly defamatory statements. Okonkwo made his reaction known through his official X handle.

While Okonkwo acknowledged receiving notice of a letter requesting N5 billion in damages, he insisted he had not yet perused the paperwork. Someone informed me that a letter claiming that I owe Peter Obi (the hypocrite) and his lawyers N5b is doing the rounds online. “Okonkwo should come to me privately, not through extortion, if he is seeking campaign funds; then I will assist him,” Okonkwo stated.

Additionally, the ex-Labour Party spokesman admitted that he personally paid for Obi’s campaign costs in the past. “I paid for my plane tickets and hotel room while I was his spokesperson for a few of our campaigns,” he admitted.

Using the facts he gathered while serving as Obi’s spokesperson, Okonkwo also issued a warning. “The letter has remained unread by me. The lawyers should be held accountable for whatever information he might have to reveal—information he obtained while serving as a spokesperson but has, out of conscience, refrained from sharing with anyone—he warned.

Okonkwo claims that he has always adhered to the idea of not using confidential information against anyone he has worked with in the past. Unless that individual gets stupid enough to follow the path of stupidity, I will not use any sensitive information that I provide with them against them. “It is truly extremely foolish of anyone to choose to sue his former Spokesperson for defamation,” he continued.

After examining the legal correspondence, the ADC leader promised to respond. He then dared Obi and his legal team to move forward with litigation. Later in the day, when I have a chance to read the letter, I will respond to it. You can email it here if you happen to have it. Peter Obi and his legal team should not let this matter go to trial. “Scammers aren’t worth my time or patience,” he wrote.

A screenshot of what seemed to be a WhatsApp discussion was also posted by Okonkwo alongside the message. “My name is Obunike Ohaegbu and I am running for the House of Representatives from the Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency. I am claiming that I was the victim of a scam, and the party is blaming PO.”
