In a recent report by Premium Times on Wednesday June 10th, 2026, a fresh political dispute has erupted between former Labour Party allies, Kenneth Okonkwo and Peter Obi, following a legal threat issued by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate over allegations of defamation.

Obi, through his legal representatives, recently demanded that Okonkwo retract claims alleging that he collected money from House of Representatives aspirants and influenced the selection of candidates in the South-east. The former Anambra State governor also demanded a public apology and N5 billion in damages, warning that legal action would follow if the demands were not met within seven days.

Responding publicly on Wednesday, Okonkwo dismissed the lawsuit threat and insisted he was not intimidated by the prospect of a court battle. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain stated that he had yet to fully review the legal correspondence but maintained that he would respond appropriately after examining its contents.

Favor As Higher Power? (The hidden truth) Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.

Okonkwo, who previously served as Obi’s spokesperson, suggested that any legal proceedings could open the door to discussions about information he acquired during their period of political association. He maintained that he had generally refrained from disclosing private matters connected to former political allies but hinted that a court case could change that position.

The controversy stems from allegations made by Okonkwo that some aspirants seeking NDC tickets in the South-east paid substantial sums of money and were unfairly treated during the candidate selection process. Obi has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to his reputation.

Meanwhile, the dispute has generated intense reactions on social media. Critics of Okonkwo questioned the strength of the evidence he presented online in support of his claims. Among the materials shared were screenshots of WhatsApp conversations and a bank transaction receipt showing a payment of N10 million.

However, observers noted that the transaction appeared to have been made to an official party account rather than to Obi personally. Some commentators argued that the documents did not directly support allegations that Obi collected money from aspirants or personally orchestrated any fraudulent scheme.
