Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) in Abuja, marking another milestone in the Federal Capital Territory’s infrastructure development efforts.
The commissioning ceremony, held on June 9, 2026, attracted senior government officials, engineers, project stakeholders, and other dignitaries involved in the ongoing transformation of the nation’s capital. The event highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving transportation networks and enhancing connectivity across Abuja.
While addressing attendees, Akpabio commended the progress made in the Federal Capital Territory and referenced recent political developments, particularly the outcome of the area council elections. He praised the level of political participation and support demonstrated by residents, noting that the results reflected growing public confidence in governance and development initiatives within the FCT.
Speaking at the event, the Senate President said:
“This is the first time in many elections since 1999 that a ruling party occupying Aso Rock will win almost all the Area Councils ELECTIONS IN FCT. Out of 6 Area Councils, the APC as the ruling party under which you are working as a minister won 5. I think they left only 1 for the other parties.”
Akpabio’s remarks emphasized the strong electoral performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory. According to him, the outcome demonstrated widespread support for the ruling party and reflected residents’ appreciation of ongoing developmental projects and governance efforts.
The comments were delivered before an audience of senior government officials and guests gathered for the commissioning of the expressway. The newly inaugurated carriageways are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and contribute to the continued expansion of critical infrastructure within Abuja.
The Outer Southern Expressway project forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to modernize road networks and support economic growth in the city. The commissioning ceremony underscored the government’s focus on infrastructure development as a key component of national progress and urban transformation.
