Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said that many of the young political figures who emerged during the 2019 presidential election cycle are no longer active in national politics.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sowore described himself as the only youth presidential candidate from the 2019 election who remains consistently involved in presidential politics. He said several other candidates from that period, including Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye, have faded from the political scene.

According to Sowore, his continued presence in politics is partly because he helped establish his own political party rather than relying on an existing platform. He argued that some politicians who joined established parties were eventually sidelined once those parties no longer needed them.

Sowore also recalled the internal struggles that affected Moghalu’s political journey after the 2019 election. He claimed that Moghalu suffered a major setback during political party activities in 2022 when he was defeated by another politician he had not expected to lose to.

The activist suggested that experiences such as internal party conflicts and political disappointments may have contributed to why some former presidential candidates are no longer as visible in Nigerian politics today.

In his words, “I remember Kingsley Moghalu was defeated by a person you and I never heard about, as of 2022, Kachukwu, they took him to Abeokuta, Obasanjo hotel, and flogged him over there. I’m sure he must have been shocked.”
