According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, actor-turned-politician and legal practitioner, Kenneth Okonkwo, has cautioned former Labour Party presidential candidate and current Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against proceeding with a reported defamation lawsuit against him.
Okonkwo argued that taking the matter to court could prove detrimental to Obi and his legal team, insisting that the decision may trigger the disclosure of sensitive information connected to the 2023 presidential campaign in which he played a prominent role.
The former campaign spokesman made his position known amid reports that Obi was preparing to institute a N5 billion defamation suit against him.
The development follows a series of disagreements and public exchanges between the two former political allies.
Their relationship, which was once strengthened by a shared political objective during the 2023 general election, has increasingly come under strain as differences over political issues and public commentary have emerged in recent months.
Okonkwo, who served as one of the leading spokespersons for Obi’s presidential campaign in 2023, stated that the proposed legal action could have unintended consequences.
According to him, a court case may compel him to disclose information obtained while serving in that capacity.
He suggested that some of the details in his possession were acquired during his involvement with the campaign and could become relevant if legal proceedings move forward.
The lawyer maintained that such information may have to be presented as part of his defence if the matter eventually reaches trial.
The public affairs analyst conveyed his warning through a statement shared on social media following reports of the impending lawsuit.
In the statement, he indicated that he had become aware of the alleged legal move and was prepared to respond appropriately.
Okonkwo stressed that he was not intimidated by the possibility of litigation and appeared confident about defending himself should the case proceed before a competent court.
His comments quickly attracted attention across political and social circles, generating discussions among supporters of both men.
According to Okonkwo, legal proceedings would create an opportunity for all relevant issues surrounding the dispute to be openly examined.
He argued that the courtroom would provide a formal platform for presenting evidence and clarifying the matters in contention.
The former spokesman maintained that any information required for his defence would be made available through the appropriate legal channels if the suit is eventually filed.
He further suggested that those encouraging the legal action should carefully consider the possible implications before moving ahead with it.
He said, “I will reply to the letter whenever I have the time to read it later in the day. Please send it here if you have it. It will be a shame to Peter Obi and his Lawyers if they do not take this case to court.”
