The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed an urgent probe into reports of a new COVID-19 case in Cross River State, amid renewed concerns over public health surveillance.
The directive, issued at the close of plenary on Thursday, mandates the Nigerian Senate Committee on Health to thoroughly investigate the development.
Chaired by Ipalibo Banigo, the committee is expected to examine the reported case and submit its findings at the next legislative session.
The reported isolated COVID-19 case in Cross River State has raised questions around testing, monitoring, and the country’s readiness to respond to potential outbreaks.
