Dr Majeed Dahiru, a public affairs analyst, has stated that the government needs to improve the welfare conditions for personnel in Nigeria’s army and other security agencies
In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Dahiru said even senior officers in the Nigerian Army such as Colonels, Brigadier Generals, and Major Generals, cannot afford a basic two-bedroom flat in areas like Satellite Town in Abuja using their salaries alone
In Dahiru’s words: “Compare the pay grade of a Nigerian police officer with Ghana and Egypt, not to talk of the USA or Canada or UK and you will understand what I am trying to say.
There is no Colonel, Brigadier General or Major General in the Nigerian army that can afford, out of their salary, a two-bedroom flat mortgage in satellite town in Abuja. How do you expect these people to perform”
