Chukwuebuka Akubueze, a House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has expressed deep concerns regarding the integrity of the party’s primary elections. He warned that internal manipulation could undermine the trust of ordinary voters who expect a fair and transparent democratic process nationwide.

According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News on Thursday, June 18, 2026, while discussing the ensuing controversy surrounding the primary election exercise within his constituency, he stated, “people will use Peter Obi’s influence to climb to positions and forget Nigerians.”

The aspirant explained that many political actors are merely leveraging the immense popularity of the top leadership to secure power. He argued that after winning election slots through flawed processes, these individuals completely ignore the local citizens who fought hard for real political transformation.

Akubueze highlighted specific irregularities during the voting exercise in Anambra State, including sudden venue changes and missing result sheets. He noted that despite high voter turnout and peaceful accreditation, the lack of official documentation has left many registered party members feeling completely disenfranchised.

To fix these recurring issues, the politician suggested that Nigerian political parties must embrace modern technology. He recommended transitioning to secure online voting systems for internal elections, which would effectively prevent wealthy individuals from manipulating delegates and hijacking the true will of the people.

In his concluding remarks, Akubueze urged the national leadership of the party to intervene quickly and ensure justice is served. He emphasized that maintaining strict internal democracy is the only way to retain the confidence of the electorate moving toward the upcoming general elections.
