According to a report by Vanguard News, on Thursday, May 4, 2026, Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has claimed that he knows the politicians allegedly sponsoring kidnappers responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State
Speaking during a meeting with newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Igboho alleged that some politicians were providing financial support and weapons to criminal groups operating in the state.
He also disclosed that he had offered to assist in rescuing the abducted pupils but was reportedly stopped by the Oyo State Government.
According to him, authorities informed him that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if he attempted to intervene.
Igboho insisted that the criminals could be driven out of their hideouts if security forces were allowed to take decisive action, warning that he may publicly expose the politicians he claimed were behind the attacks if they fail to stop their activities.
The activist further stated that although his security outfit, Iru Ekun, had received federal approval, the state government discouraged its involvement in the rescue operation.
He also linked the insecurity challenges to what he described as efforts by certain individuals to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that some groups were deliberately creating instability and spreading propaganda to weaken public confidence in the government.
His comments come days after gunmen abducted dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, an incident that triggered widespread concern and protests across the country.
