According to a report by Punch , on Thursday jun 4, 2026, Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has expressed concern over the alleged exposure of his personal information at the Independent National Electoral Commission, describing the incident as one that made him feel unsafe and raised serious questions about data protection and privacy in Nigeria.
The actor, who is also an aspirant for the House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, spoke publicly about the matter during an interview on a television programme.
According to him, the incident has left him worried about the security of personal information held by public institutions and the potential implications for citizens across the country.
Speaking on the issue, Ike explained that the alleged disclosure of his personal details was deeply troubling and created fears about personal safety.
He said the experience was particularly disturbing because it involved information that should ordinarily be protected under established procedures.
The actor stated that the situation caused him to reflect on the broader issue of data security and whether adequate safeguards exist to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive information belonging to citizens.
He maintained that personal records entrusted to public institutions should be handled responsibly and protected from misuse.

As part of his response to the incident, Ike confirmed that he has initiated legal action against Lere Olayinka.
According to him, the matter has been handed over to his legal team for appropriate action through the courts.
He explained that pursuing legal remedies is necessary to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the alleged disclosure are properly examined and addressed through established legal processes.
The actor stated that he believes the judicial system provides an avenue for determining accountability and clarifying issues relating to privacy and data protection.
Ike disclosed that his lawyers have already communicated with several parties regarding the matter.
According to him, formal letters have been sent to those directly connected to the incident as well as relevant institutions and agencies.
These include the Independent National Electoral Commission, his political party, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.
He explained that the objective of these communications is to ensure that the matter is officially documented and brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities.
By notifying the relevant institutions, he said, a record of the complaint has been established for future reference and investigation.
The issue has also renewed attention on discussions surrounding data privacy and the protection of personal information in Nigeria.

He said, “Obviously, I will go to court, and my lawyer has already written to Lere and INEC. He has also written my party, the DSS and the police so that it can be on record that stuff like this has happened in Nigeria.”
