According to a report by Kyiv Post on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Iran has warned that any Israeli military strike on Beirut will escalate into full-scale war and vowed to respond.
Despite escalating regional tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Lebanon’s hostilities would directly affect Iran and Israel’s dispute.
According to Beirut-based media reports, Araghchi also stated that Iran’s return to diplomatic discussions would depend on protecting national rights and ending regional military pressure.
“If Israel attacks Beirut, war will return,” he declared. “Either the war in Iran and Lebanon ends or it continues.”
Despite the increase, Iran and the US continue to communicate, saying “messages have been exchanged regarding the need to stop attacks against Beirut.”
Araghchi added that Iran can endure a prolonged fight, but Tehran does not want it. His words seemed to combine deterrence with conditional diplomatic involvement based on ground conditions.
In recent weeks, disagreements over planned deals between Iran, the US, and regional partners have slowed ceasefire talks.
International media say US President Donald Trump changed a draft understanding that negotiators had initially agreed upon, complicating de-escalation negotiations.
Iranian leaders have stated that no final agreement will be recognised unless it properly protects Iranian people’s rights. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf cautioned that framework amendments could delay a settlement.
Negotiations have resumed occasionally, but neither side has reached a deescalation agreement.
Israeli military activities in Lebanon and regional tensions threaten the ceasefire arrangement.
According to estimates, thousands of people have died and 1.2 million have been displaced in Lebanon alone as the conflict has spread.
