Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a fresh injury update on Jurrien Timber ahead of the club’s massive UEFA Champions League Final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain, According to a report by Metro Sport, on Thursday May 21,2026.
Timber has been sidelined since March after suffering a groin injury during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton.
The Netherlands international has missed the Gunners’ last 13 matches, including their successful push towards the Premier League title.
There had been concern surrounding the defender’s fitness after he missed training again on Wednesday, despite being seen celebrating Arsenal’s title triumph with teammates earlier in the week.
However, Arteta has now suggested there is still hope Timber could return before the Champions League final.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s final league game against Crystal Palace, Arteta explained that Timber is progressing in his recovery, although he remains slightly behind teammate Mikel Merino.
“Mikel is going to start training with the group tomorrow,” Arteta said. “Jurrien, let’s hope he can do the same in the next few days. But he’s still a little further behind Mikel at that moment.”
The situation has become more significant for Arsenal after Ben White was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee ligament injury suffered against West Ham United.
Without White available, Arteta has limited options at right-back. Summer arrival Cristhian Mosquera could fill the role, but Timber’s experience and defensive ability would be a major boost against PSG, especially with dangerous winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia expected to start.
Stephen Smith, CEO of , admitted Timber’s lack of match sharpness after two months out remains a concern.
However, he also noted Arsenal’s injury problems may encourage the club to push for the defender’s return sooner rather than later as they prepare for one of the biggest games in their history.
