According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, former Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the timing of the announcement of the 2023 presidential election results, particularly questioning the credibility of the process that led to the declaration.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the electoral body during the election.
He specifically pointed to the early morning announcement of the final results, describing it as unusual and raising concerns about transparency in the electoral process.
He argued that the announcement of election results at an unusual hour created doubts about the integrity of the process, insisting that such actions undermined public confidence in democratic institutions.
According to him, the timing of the declaration was a key issue that should be addressed when assessing the credibility of the election outcome.
The former vice presidential candidate also extended his criticism to President Bola Tinubu, stating that it was unacceptable for him to lead a government that emerged from what he described as a flawed electoral process.
He maintained that the legitimacy of the administration was tied to the integrity of the election that brought it into power.
He said, “And how can you shamelessly be leading a government that was announced at 4am? Who works at 4am? Criminals! The INEC that announces a result at 4am is a criminal INEC. Believe me.”
