Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a sign of growing unity among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Daily Post, Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, officially joined the ADC on Monday after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Sunday.
Reacting to the development on his official Facebook page, Atiku welcomed Kwankwaso to the party, saying, “When men of conviction come together, power trembles. Welcome aboard, HE Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”
Before his defection, Kwankwaso visited Atiku at his residence in Abuja on Saturday. Atiku later revealed on X that both leaders had a “robust discussion on the state of the nation.”
The meeting came shortly after ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, also met with Kwankwaso in Abuja.
Kwankwaso was formally received into the ADC in Kano at Gidan Kwankwasiyya on Miller Road. The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including Peter Obi, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal and Rotimi Amaechi.
The development is seen as part of ongoing political realignments among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
