According to a video on Morayo Show, on Monday June 8, 2026, popular Nigerian comedian and producer Bovi made a deeply personal admission about fatherhood, stating plainly that he was never trained to be a father and that his wife’s presence has been the defining factor in whatever success he has achieved in that role.
The statement came during a candid discussion about men’s health, manhood, and fatherhood, topics that the show had dedicated time to exploring throughout the month.
Host Morayo had asked Bovi specifically about what it means to be a husband and father in Nigeria, and his response went far beyond the expected talking points.
In his words, Bovi said, “Being a husband and being a father generally, that is keeping provision aside, it has been tough. And that is where I will give credit to my wife because without her I do not think, I was not trained, I was not trained to be a father.
“Now that I am one, and I think that goes for many Nigerian men, so we learn on the job, right, and that is why it is very hard for me to criticize harshly anybody who is not living up to that expectation because maybe I am lucky, maybe because I have the ability to always question myself and that is why I can put in the effort, and even at that I will call myself average” he said.
Bovi’s remarks touched on a broader pattern he identified among Nigerian men, arguing that the cultural environment in which most of them were raised did not equip them with the emotional tools required for fatherhood.
As a result, many men find themselves improvising in roles they were never adequately prepared for, sometimes falling short not from a lack of love but from a lack of example and guidance.
