According to a report by Punch on Friday, June 19, 2026, Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders drawn from across the seven Igbo-speaking states in Nigeria have expressed their support for the leadership and operations of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), describing the institution as a key platform for advancing regional development.
The group also used the opportunity to appeal for greater inclusion of South-East youths in federal appointments under the current administration.
The position was made known during the Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Convention held on Friday in Awka, Anambra State.
The gathering brought together youth representatives, community leaders, and stakeholders from various parts of the South-East, with discussions centered on governance, development, and increased participation of young people in national decision-making processes.
Favor As Higher Power? (The hidden truth) Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
During the convention, participants reviewed ongoing federal initiatives in the region and expressed optimism about the potential impact of the South East Development Commission.
They emphasized the importance of sustained government attention to infrastructure, economic development, and youth empowerment as key drivers for stability and progress in the region.
The Convener of the event, Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, addressed participants and highlighted the significance of the South East Development Commission in addressing long-standing developmental challenges facing the region.
He noted that the establishment of the commission represents a structured approach to tackling infrastructural deficits and promoting coordinated development across South-East states.
Okpalaezeukwu also commended the Federal Government for ongoing infrastructural projects currently being implemented in the South-East, particularly road construction efforts aimed at improving connectivity and economic activity within the region.
He stated that such projects demonstrate a renewed focus on addressing critical infrastructure needs that have affected the region over the years.
He further encouraged continued collaboration between the Federal Government and South-East stakeholders to ensure that development initiatives are effectively implemented and sustained.
The convention concluded with renewed calls for increased youth representation in federal appointments and decision-making structures, with participants emphasizing the need for inclusive governance.
He said, “We commend President Tinubu for creating the South East Development Commission and for the infrastructural projects currently being executed across the South-East.”
