According to AIT News on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved land allocations for 70 ambassadors-designate in Abuja.
The Minister shared this during a meeting, noting that the President contacted him directly with the directive before the diplomats departed for their missions.
This move is aimed at ensuring that the diplomats have permanent residences in the capital when they return for official duties and briefings.
Minister Wike explained that the President expressed concern that most ambassadors currently lack personal accommodation in Abuja.
According to him, the President believes that having dedicated homes will allow the envoys to avoid staying in hotels during their periodic visits to brief the presidency.
To facilitate this, the Minister presented land allocation forms to the officials, urging them to complete the documentation immediately to secure their plots.
The Minister further noted that the number of beneficiaries might increase, stating that the total count could eventually reach 75 to accommodate additional personnel.
He encouraged the ambassadors to remain hopeful, stating that the President has good intentions for national development.
Wike also expressed optimism about the stability of the country, adding that he believes the 2027 elections will be conducted peacefully while maintaining national unity.
This allocation is part of broader efforts to support diplomatic staff in their service to the country.
The ambassadors are expected to finalize their applications before leaving for their respective duty posts abroad.
The initiative marks a significant step in providing institutional support for Nigeria’s representatives in the international community.
