According to a report by DAILY POST on 19th June 2026, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State have accused the state government of worsening the ongoing dispute over the control of local government councils.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Friday, APC chieftain Barrister Adegoke Ogunsola alleged that the state government was deliberately giving a misleading interpretation of a recent Federal High Court ruling, a move he said could spark unrest across the state.

According to Ogunsola, the case was filed by reinstated APC council chairmen and councillors in September 2025 to seek clarification on when their tenure officially commenced under Osun State laws; He noted that the court dismissed the suit on June 15, 2026.

Favor As Higher Power? (The hidden truth) Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.

He stressed that the dismissal should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the local government elections reportedly held on February 22, 2025, contrary to claims by the state government and its supporters.

The APC leader accused government officials of using the judgment to justify attempts to install individuals as local government leaders, warning that such actions could create unnecessary political tension.

Ogunsola also faulted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s call for police protection for those claiming to be elected council officials, describing the move as inappropriate and potentially capable of destabilizing the state.

He disclosed that the judgment has already been appealed, adding that a motion seeking a stay of execution was filed on June 16 and served on all parties involved, including security agencies.

According to him, those seeking to take over the councils were not parties to the original suit and did not obtain any relief from the court; He therefore argued that law enforcement agencies should not act on the judgment while the appeal remains pending.

Ogunsola further referenced a section of the court ruling which, he said, affirmed that the tenure of the elected council chairmen and councillors runs from October 2022 to October 2025.

Based on that interpretation, he maintained that any election or swearing-in exercise allegedly conducted in February 2025 lacks legal validity and remains subject to judicial review at the Court of Appeal.

The APC and ALGON officials urged residents of the state to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, insisting that no court order currently permits anyone to forcefully assume control of council secretariats.

They also praised security agencies, including the police, DSS and NSCDC, for helping to maintain peace and order, while warning that any crisis arising from the disputed interpretation of the court judgment should be blamed on the Osun State Government.
