According to a report by Daily Post, on Wednesday May 13, 2026, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Solomon Dalung, has expressed his view on the political future of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He stated that the party’s presidential chances are very low despite growing interest around it, Dalung said the party may still succeed in winning some National Assembly seats, however, he insisted that its presidential ambition remains weak and unlikely to succeed.
He specifically referred to the expected joint presidential ambition of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso under the NDC platform, he said their chances of winning the presidency are very slim.
According to him, the NDC may manage to secure some legislative representation across different states, but he stressed that this will not translate into a presidential victory.
Dalung explained that presidential elections in Nigeria require broad national strength, he said the current structure around the NDC does not appear strong enough for that level of contest.
He maintained that the support bases of both Obi and Kwankwaso are not enough on their own to secure a national win, he added that even combined efforts would struggle against stronger political structures.
He pointed to the 2023 general election as a reference point, he said past vote patterns suggest that opposition numbers alone cannot guarantee a presidential upset in 2027.
Dalung suggested that while the NDC may grow in influence at the legislative level, it still lacks the nationwide spread needed for the presidency, he repeated that the presidential ambition of Obi and Kwankwaso under the NDC remains weak, he said this is due to political realities on the ground and shifting voter alignments.
“For the NDC, the Presidential prospect is very, very low. They may have members of the National Assembly being elected under the party but Obi-Kwankwaso’s chances are very, very low,” he said.
