According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, June 1, 2026, according to former SGF Babachir Lawal, President Bola Tinubu will be able to win the 2027 election by a wide margin.
During his appearance on Monday’s Politics Today on Channels Television, he made this claim.
His departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was announced publicly through a Facebook post in which he also discussed his present political stance and future plans, therefore the statement was made soon after.
Lawal acknowledged his formal withdrawal from active membership of the ADC in his remarks surrounding his resignation.
The explanation he gave for leaving the party apparatus was disclosed openly on his social media profile, he said.
His decision to step away from the party was based on his participation in recent political realignments, which he mentioned.
Lawal went on to say that he was unhappy with the way politics in Nigeria was being handled, which is why he decided to step away from active politics.
He said that his background in politics played a role in his decision to distance himself from party politics and electoral politics.
He claims that he gradually distanced himself from partisan involvement because the current political climate did not conform to his expectations or values.
Additionally, he plans to focus more on personal commitments outside of politics rather than continuing to be immersed in political rivalry.
Agribusiness and religious obligations, especially those connected to one’s faith, were among the topics he covered.
Following his departure from active political activity, he stated that these endeavours would now constitute the center of his concentration going ahead.
While discussing his current position, Lawal touched on his time spent working with an opposition alliance that had embraced the African Democratic Congress platform.
He recalled that, in light of upcoming election fights, the coalition had hoped to strengthen itself through the ADC organization.
There have been continuous realignments within the opposition movement and changing political coalitions, which he mentioned when he announced his retirement.
He insisted that President Tinubu would still be a strong candidate in the next election even with these alliance efforts.
He implied that the incumbent’s political network and clout would be deciding factors in the 2027 election, expressing the opinion that unseating the president would be an extremely difficult task.
In addition, he reiterated his belief that Tinubu’s return would be supported by the political climate.
“If Atiku’s strength is in manipulating results, he will meet the master leader in the front next year. And so they will be all the worse for it,” Lawal stated.
