Theo Abu Agada, spokesman for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended Seriake Dickson, national leader of the party, after he was criticised by an X user for remarks he made about Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
A user of X questioned Dickson’s move to openly ask Obi and Kwankwaso to warn their followers, sparking the controversy. The user stated that it was unprecedented for the party head to publicly confront the party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates in this way.
The social media user voiced his opinion, saying that he had never seen a party leader publicly ask the leading candidates to control their followers.
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, in response to the criticism, Agada denied the allegations and insisted that Dickson had acted inappropriately. He maintained that the NDC leader had every right to speak out after suffering through numerous instances of disrespect.
In addition, Agada said that Dickson had problems with other party members, including one instance when, supposedly, several contenders showed up at his home in the middle of the night to dispute the outcome of a primary election they thought they had won. In addition, he said that certain people were disseminating false information about the party leader.
In his response to X, Agada stressed that Dickson was right to take action, arguing that the amount of backlash he had been receiving had becoming intolerable.
