According to a report by Daily Trust on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has warned that he may release confidential information allegedly obtained during his time as spokesperson for the 2023 presidential campaign of Peter Obi, amid an escalating legal dispute between both parties.

Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for Obi during the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, made the remarks in a post on X on Wednesday following a lawsuit reportedly filed by Obi’s legal team.

The legal action seeks N5 billion in damages and a public apology over recent allegations made by Okonkwo.

Earlier in the week, Okonkwo had accused Obi and some leaders of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the South-East of collecting N10 million from House of Representatives aspirants and N20 million from senatorial aspirants during party primaries. The claims have not been independently verified.

In response, Obi’s legal representatives initiated a defamation suit against Okonkwo, prompting a sharp reaction from the former campaign spokesperson.

Okonkwo argued that if Obi required financial support for political activities, he could have requested assistance privately, insisting that he had previously personally supported campaign logistics, including travel and accommodation expenses during campaign engagements.

He further cautioned that lawyers involved in the case could be held accountable for any consequences arising from the legal proceedings, and warned that continued provocation could lead him to disclose sensitive information he said he had so far withheld on ethical grounds.

In his post on X, Okonkwo said he had not yet fully reviewed the legal letter but described the lawsuit as unnecessary, adding that he would respond formally after doing so.

He also maintained that initiating a defamation suit against a former spokesperson was unwise, and insisted he was prepared to defend his position if the matter proceeds in court.
