Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has described Peter Obi’s recent pledge to serve only a single term if elected president as fleeting and unreliable.

In a reaction to the former Labour Party Presidential candidate proposal, Onanuga cautioned Nigerians against taking the former Anambra State Governor at his word.

He argued that Obi’s political history is defined by abandoned loyalties and broken vows, suggesting that this latest commitment to a four-year tenure is merely a strategic maneuver rather than a sincere intent.

The Presidential spokesperson anchored his criticism on Obi’s departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Onanuga recalled that while Obi was a member of APGA, he famously placed himself under a self-curse, vowing never to leave the party that provided the platform for his governorship.

Onanuga further alleged a personal commitment Obi allegedly made to the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (the Ikemba).

According to Onanuga, Obi swore loyalty and fidelity to APGA even at Ojukwu’s deathbed, only to eventually exit the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything. He ultimately abandoned APGA for the PDP, and since then, he has drifted from one political platform to another, a political rolling stone,” Onanuga stated.
