Supreme Court Voids PDP Ibadan Convention
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has voided the national convention held by the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan in November 2025, nullifying the factional leadership that emerged under Tanimu Turaki. The court upheld earlier rulings that the convention was conducted in violation of subsisting court orders, as a Federal High Court had restrained the party from proceeding due to breaches of its constitution and unresolved disputes from state congresses.
Despite the restriction, the convention went ahead, leading to further litigation that saw both the High Court and the Court of Appeal invalidate the exercise. The Supreme Court’s final decision has now affirmed those judgments, bringing an end to the legal battle and effectively nullifying the legitimacy of the factional executives produced at the Ibadan convention.

Iran’s supreme leader says US suffered ‘disgraceful defeat’
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has declared that the United States suffered a “disgraceful defeat” in its confrontation with Iran, following what he described as a major military deployment in the region. In a message broadcast on state television, he said the outcome marked a turning point, signalling the beginning of a new phase for the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Khamenei maintained that the conflict failed to achieve Washington’s objectives, portraying the development as a strategic setback for the U.S. He suggested that the evolving situation would reshape regional dynamics, particularly in key waterways, as Iran asserts its position in the aftermath of the standoff.
