BREAKING: Kogi PDP Chairman Calls for Unity as Supreme Court Nullifies Ibadan Convention

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Muhammed Gambo, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, has reacted to the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the Court of Appeal’s decision which nullified the PDP Ibadan convention, describing it as a defining moment for the party.

The Supreme Court, in its ruling delivered on Thursday, affirmed the earlier appellate court decision that invalidated the convention.

The verdict was reached by a five-member panel, with three justices supporting the nullification while two dissented, holding that the appeal had merit.

Gambo said the judgment highlights the strength of Nigeria’s judicial system and should be seen as an opportunity for the PDP to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future political contests.

He urged members of the party to close ranks and support ongoing efforts to stabilise the leadership structure, stressing that internal cohesion remains essential for the PDP’s survival and competitiveness.

According to him, the party continues to enjoy strong national relevance, noting that many Nigerians still reflect on its years in power as a period marked by relative economic stability and governance progress compared to current realities.

He added that the PDP previously played a key role in improving national security conditions and strengthening public confidence before losing power in a controversial political transition.

Gambo expressed confidence that the party’s Kogi State chapter remains strategically positioned for future electoral success, calling on residents to support efforts aimed at reclaiming political control in the state during the 2027 elections.

He also highlighted the importance of ongoing party registration and mobilisation exercises, describing them as key steps toward strengthening the PDP’s grassroots structure and expanding its support base.

The party chairman further commended the judiciary for its role in resolving political disputes, saying the ruling reinforces the courts’ importance in sustaining democratic order and ensuring clarity in party governance matters.
