According to Aljazeera News, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed gratitude to Russia for backing the Islamic Republic, while reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to confronting the United States, according to Russia’s state-owned news agency RIA.
Speaking in an interview published, Araghchi praised Moscow’s stance amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Western powers. His remarks come as both nations face expanded sanctions from Washington and its allies over issues ranging from Iran’s nuclear program to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“We deeply appreciate Moscow’s principled position in supporting Tehran, Araghchi told RIA. He added that Iran’s policy of resisting U.S. pressure remains unwavering, stating, “Iran will continue to fight the US on all fronts until it abandons its hostile policies.
The top diplomat did not elaborate on specific military or diplomatic actions, but the language signals no imminent thaw in U.S.-Iran relations, which have deteriorated since Washington’s 2018 withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
Araghchi’s comments reinforce the growing strategic partnership between Iran and Russia, both oil-rich nations that have increasingly coordinated on energy, defense, and regional issues. Moscow has supplied Iran with advanced SU-35 fighter jets and air defense systems, while Tehran has provided Russia with drones used in Ukraine, a claim both governments deny.
The White House did not immediately respond to the remarks. Analysts see the alliance as a central challenge to U.S. influence in the Middle East.
