According to a report by Football Transfer on Thursday May 21, 2026, Xabi Alonso has addressed growing speculation surrounding the futures of Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella following reports linking all three Chelsea stars with potential summer exits. The Spaniard recently became Chelsea’s new permanent manager ahead of next season.

Alonso will officially begin work at Stamford Bridge on July 1 as Chelsea attempt to recover from a difficult 2025-26 campaign. The Blues are still at risk of finishing in the bottom half after failing to secure Champions League qualification.

Chelsea’s board are expected to give Alonso greater influence in transfer decisions this summer. The club are planning major changes, with several experienced players expected to arrive as the London side look to rebuild after another disappointing season overall.

Despite Chelsea’s plans, uncertainty remains around several important squad members. Fernandez has attracted interest from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid are monitoring Cucurella, while Barcelona have identified Joao Pedro as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski next season.

Reports in Spain claim Barcelona sporting director Deco recently met Pedro’s representatives in London to discuss a possible transfer. Although the Brazilian forward is reportedly interested in joining Hansi Flick’s side, Chelsea remain determined to keep him this summer.

Speaking to El Chiringuito TV about the speculation surrounding Fernandez, Cucurella and Pedro, Alonso remained calm and insisted Chelsea will continue building a strong squad. He described football transfer rumours as normal and expressed confidence about the club’s future direction.

Alonso also revealed his excitement about taking charge at Chelsea, calling it an attractive project and a great opportunity. He is expected to play a major role in recruitment decisions as Chelsea reshape their squad before next season begins.

Several players have already been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, including Morgan Rogers, Jan Paul van Hecke and Iliman Ndiaye. Meanwhile, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tyrique George and Alejandro Garnacho could all leave Chelsea during the transfer window.
