A suspect, Anthony Oghenetega, has confessed to his alleged involvement in the killing of a teenager identified as Thompson Adams in Ikorodu, revealing disturbing details about how the act was carried out.
Oghenetega made the disclosure during an interview on Sahara TV, where he recounted the sequence of events that led to the victim’s death. His statement comes as police authorities intensify investigations into the case, which has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over violent crime in parts of Lagos State.
Providing insight into the incident, the suspect claimed the victim had travelled for an examination before being deceived on his return journey.
According to his words, “He went to Epe to write JAMB, and on his way back, my guy lured him to my apartment.”
Oghenetega went on to describe what allegedly happened after the victim arrived at the location, suggesting that preparations had already been made prior to his arrival.
“So when the guy got to our house, we already had chains, padlocks, and a Ghana-must-go bag,” he added.
In a further chilling detail, the suspect disclosed the weapons allegedly used during the attack.
“I had a cutlass as my own weapon, and my friend had a stick which he put nail on,” he stated.
The account indicates that the crime may have been premeditated, with tools and weapons allegedly assembled in advance. Investigators are expected to examine these claims carefully as part of efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to police sources, Oghenetega is currently in custody, while security operatives are actively working to track down other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident. Authorities have described the case as a serious homicide and assured that all suspects connected to the crime will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Residents of Ikorodu have reacted with shock and concern, with many calling for increased security presence and stronger measures to curb violent crimes in the area. Community leaders have also urged young people to avoid criminal associations and emphasized the importance of vigilance.
Law enforcement officials have reiterated that while confessional statements are important, they must be supported by forensic evidence and witness testimonies to ensure a solid legal case. They added that investigations will be thorough and guided by due process.
The killing of Thompson Adams has reignited discussions about youth-related violence and the need for preventive strategies, including community engagement and improved intelligence gathering by security agencies.
