A high-ranking military advisor to the supreme leader of Iran has cautioned that the United States’ blockade of Iranian ports is destined to be unsuccessful. He noted that the Government of the Islamic Republic, led by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, could opt for a confrontational stance if the U.S. government does not relent.
This statement indicates that, although there is a prolonged ceasefire, the ongoing tension at sea could quickly lead to a new outbreak of conflict.
As per a report from Anadolu English dated April 30, 2026, Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, stated that Iran has various strategies to overcome the blockade, claiming that American attempts to curb Iranian maritime commerce will ultimately fail.
He further asserted, “The US blockade is bound to fail,” emphasizing that ongoing pressure would limit Iran’s choices.
Rezaei also cautioned, “Should the blockade continue, Iran might be compelled to confront it.”
In addition, Mohsen Rezaei elaborated on possible outcomes if another conflict emerges, suggesting that any future war would likely be concentrated in Iran’s southern coastal regions, stretching towards the city of Isfahan, with additional activities in the west of the country.
He also warned that such a conflict could involve bombings and targeted killings in Tehran, the capital.
Reports indicate that the recent warning from top Iranian diplomat Mohsen Rezaei implies that the Islamic Republic’s government, under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, regards the blockade not merely as an economic action but as a declaration of war.
His impassioned statements also suggest that the Iranian regime will not accept endless limitations on their maritime trade and that they are ready to challenge the determination of President Donald Trump’s administration.
