A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Idris Kalgo, has dismissed the political relevance of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Kalgo argued that both politicians no longer represent a major challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the ADC is focused on defeating Tinubu rather than paying attention to Obi or Kwankwaso. He claimed that Nigerians are not looking to the political platforms associated with the two politicians for leadership but are instead turning their attention to the ADC as the main opposition force.
Kalgo further described Obi as a regional politician whose support is concentrated in a particular part of the country. He also characterized Kwankwaso as a politician with influence largely limited to one state, noting that the former presidential candidate finished third in the last presidential election.
The ADC chieftain questioned the level of support Obi enjoys in Northern Nigeria, arguing that his political appeal does not extend strongly across all regions of the country.
In his words, “Peter Obi is just a regional Politician, Kwankwaso is just a one-state politician. He came third.”
