Speaking during an interview broadcast on Arise News on June 6, 2026, Seriake Dickson, the founder and national leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), called on party members and supporters to concentrate on strengthening the party’s structure and unity ahead of the 2027 general election. He stressed that political parties, rather than individual candidates, remain the central entities in electoral contests, reminding supporters that the NDC’s name will be what voters see on the ballot paper.
Dickson’s comments come against the backdrop of reports suggesting tensions between some supporters of Peter Obi, widely known as Obidients, and the leadership of the NDC. The concerns reportedly emerged after Obi became the party’s sole presidential candidate, with some members of his support base expressing reservations about certain internal party processes. These developments have sparked conversations regarding unity and cooperation within the opposition movement as preparations for the next election gather momentum.
Favor As Higher Power? (The hidden truth) Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
Addressing the matter directly, Dickson underscored the importance of party identity and collective responsibility. He stated, “On the ballot, there is no Peter. On the ballot, there is no Kwankwaso. What will appear on the ballot is NDC. That is the reality.”
Despite the reports of disagreement, Dickson rejected claims that there is any conflict between the party leadership and its presidential candidate. He maintained that the relationship between both sides remains positive and productive, emphasizing that collaboration within the party is ongoing.
Speaking about Obi, Dickson said, “He is our presidential candidate, and we are working harmoniously together,” adding that internal cooperation remains strong and focused on the party’s broader objectives.
The NDC leader further described Obi as an important member of the party and explained that his emergence as the party’s flagbearer was a voluntary decision reached without pressure, conditions, or coercion. According to Dickson, the process reflected a shared commitment to advancing the party’s goals ahead of the elections.
He also warned against actions, comments, or conduct that could undermine the party from within. Dickson emphasized that the NDC is not merely a platform for individual political ambitions but an institution with established structures, leadership, and a distinct identity. He urged members and supporters to respect and protect those structures, noting that party unity and discipline will be crucial as preparations continue for the 2027 general election.
