According to a report by DAILY POST on Friday 12th June 2026, former presidential campaign spokesperson and African Democratic Party (ADP) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has disclosed that he warned Peter Obi against joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a post shared on X, Okonkwo said he advised Obi to remain in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that a move to the NDC would place him in a weak position within the party.
According to him, recent remarks made by NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, have confirmed the concerns he expressed before Obi’s defection.
Okonkwo pointed to Dickson’s comments regarding party registration and leadership, claiming they reflected the reality that new entrants into the NDC would have limited influence over the party’s affairs.
The politician stated that he had previously cautioned Obi that leaving the ADC could make him politically dependent on the NDC leadership rather than becoming a key decision-maker within the party.
He further alleged that Obi and his supporters would be expected to align completely with the directives of the party leadership, adding that Dickson’s recent interview strengthened his belief that his earlier warning was justified.
