According to a report by The Nation on Monday 27th April 2026, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Suleiman Yerima Balla, has expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu will secure strong support from the state in the 2027 presidential election, while casting doubt on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s future electoral strength in the region.
Balla made the statement on Monday in Yola during his declaration to join the Adamawa governorship race and while addressing journalists.
He noted that although Atiku remains a respected political figure in Adamawa, the level of support he previously enjoyed may not be sustained in coming elections.
“Atiku Abubakar is our father and we have supported him in past elections, including 2023; But political realities have changed,” he said.
According to him, Atiku has already benefited significantly from Adamawa’s electoral backing over the years, adding that future outcomes would likely differ.
Balla also argued that the political landscape in the state is becoming more favorable to the APC, citing growing party cohesion and recent political realignments as factors strengthening the ruling party’s position.
He expressed confidence that these developments would translate into strong support for President Tinubu in 2027.
“With the strengthening of our party structure, we believe Adamawa will stand firmly with President Bola Tinubu,” he added.
Beyond national politics, Balla used the occasion to unveil his campaign agenda, which he described as a nine-point plan focused on key development areas including security, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure, industrial growth, civil service reforms, and digital governance.
He promised to prioritize agriculture as a driver of economic growth, saying his administration would empower farmers and improve food production across the state.
On education, he pledged reforms aimed at expanding access, improving school facilities, and training teachers to enhance learning outcomes.
