A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and political ally of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Idris Kalgo, has defended Amaechi’s political credentials, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished politicians and insisting that he has never lost a general election.
Kalgo made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV on Friday June 19, 2026, while responding to questions about Amaechi’s political strength and the value he would bring to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, Amaechi’s political history demonstrates a consistent ability to win elections and lead successful campaigns.
“Rotimi Amaechi has never lost a general election. He is a two-time Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a two-time Governor, and a two-time Director-General of a presidential campaign, a DG campaign who removed an incumbent president, President Goodluck Jonathan,” Kalgo said.
He argued that Amaechi’s experience in elective office and campaign management distinguishes him from many contemporary politicians, citing his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and his two terms as governor of Rivers State as evidence of his political appeal.
Kalgo also highlighted Amaechi’s role as Director-General of the 2015 presidential campaign that led to the defeat of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, describing it as proof of his capacity to deliver electoral victories at the national level.
The ADC chieftain made the comments while defending Amaechi’s political relevance amid discussions over the party’s proposed 2027 presidential ticket and the former minister’s potential role in the party’s electoral strategy.
His remarks come as the ADC continues preparations for the 2027 general election following recent legal battles over the party’s status and ongoing internal discussions about its presidential ticket.
