Nigerian entertainer and MC Roby Ekpo has opened up about the criticism he faced after relocating to live with his wife shortly after their marriage.
He shared this experience during a conversation on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he reflected on some of the personal decisions he made early in his marriage. In his words, “After our wedding, I moved to my wife’s place in Lagos and comedians used me as materials to make jokes.”
According to him, after tying the knot, he relocated from Calabar to Lagos to live with his wife. He explained that the decision was based on their circumstances at the time, but it did not sit well with some people around him.
Ekpo noted that the move attracted criticism, particularly from people in his hometown. He said some comedians even turned his situation into jokes, using it as material to mock the idea of a man leaving his base to stay with his wife in another city.
He explained that the reactions were rooted in societal expectations about gender roles and traditional norms, where men are often expected to be the primary providers and heads of the household.
Despite the criticism, he maintained that he made the decision based on what he believed was right at the time.
His experience has sparked conversations about societal pressure, cultural expectations, and how personal decisions in marriage are often judged by others.
He emphasized that relationships should be guided by mutual understanding between partners rather than external opinions.
