BREAKING: ₦520m Lifeline for FUTO as Dangote, Imo Deputy Governor Make Joint Appearance

According to a report by the official Facebook page of Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the 37th Public Lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) became a major platform for discussions on economic growth, innovation, and youth empowerment as top government officials and industry leaders gathered in the institution.

Representing Governor Hope Uzodimma, Deputy Governor Lady Chinyere Ekomaru reiterated the administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and building an investment-friendly environment in Imo State. She noted that recent improvements in security and governance have begun to boost investor confidence and economic interest in the State.

Addressing students at the lecture, she urged them to focus on technology, innovation, and skill acquisition, stressing that these remain essential tools for success in today’s competitive global economy. She encouraged them to see education as a foundation for creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship.

The keynote speaker, Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, identified key challenges affecting Nigeria’s industrial development, particularly unstable power supply and gaps in technical and vocational education. He emphasized that addressing these issues is critical for sustainable industrial growth and job creation.

Dangote also announced a ₦520 million pledge for the construction of a new student hostel at FUTO, aimed at improving student welfare and accommodation. In addition, he donated ₦25 million to the office of the Students’ Union Government President, a gesture that was warmly received by students and staff.

The lecture, held under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Nnenna N. Otti, highlighted growing collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector, as stakeholders continue to explore practical strategies for Nigeria’s economic transformation and youth development.
