Nigerian actress and entrepreneur Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has revealed that she spent millions of naira to freeze her eggs as part of her plans for the future.
The social media influencer made the revelation during an episode of BBC Africa’s podcast The Conversation, where she discussed marriage pressure, motherhood, and reproductive choices.
According to Ashmusy, the decision came after she turned 30 and realized she did not want to rush into marriage simply because of societal expectations or fear of her biological clock.
Speaking during the interview, she said: “I paid 7.5 million naira to freeze my eggs, and I’ll keep paying yearly to keep them frozen.”
The actress explained that the amount covered the major medical procedure involved in extracting and preserving her eggs.
However, she noted that the process does not end there, as additional yearly payments are required to keep the eggs stored safely.
Ashmusy stated that although the cost was expensive, she considered it a worthwhile investment because it gave her peace of mind and more control over her future.
According to her, freezing her eggs helped remove the pressure of feeling like she needed to get married immediately just to have children.
She also explained that many women silently struggle with anxiety surrounding age, marriage, and fertility, especially after turning 30.
The influencer emphasized that her decision was not because she was against marriage, but because she wanted enough time to choose the right partner carefully.
