Iran’s military leadership has reiterated that the country has no intention of developing nuclear weapons while stressing its strong military posture in the Gulf region, according to a report by Al Jazeera on June 12, 2026.
Speaking in an interview with Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, a senior commander in the Iranian armed forces, said that Iran maintains firm control and influence over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He claimed that the waterway, which is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, remains under strong Iranian dominance.
