In an interview on SYMFONI TV, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, according to Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo, a former presidential spokesperson and current leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party will be stronger in the general elections of 2027 as a result of recent withdrawals from the coalition.
Regarding the future of Nigeria’s elections, Okonkwo stated that coalition members should not include those who seek to break party unity. He claims that their departure presents a chance for ADC to reorganise and strengthen its foundations.
“When those people that want to destabilise you leave your party, it is a blessing. ADC will reorganise and become stronger,” Okonkwo declared.
He insisted that internal enemies of the party, rather than membership turnover, pose the biggest threat to the opposition. He asserted, based on what happened in Enugu State, that the ADC had fought off political actors who wanted to use its structure for their own ends.
According to Okonkwo, the party is now more united in the state than before, but the former members are now fighting amongst themselves. After a few politicians tried to seize control of ADC for their own political gain, he claimed, they all left, and the party is now stable again.
Meanwhile, the actor-turned-politician was upbeat about ADC’s chances of winning the election, claiming that Nigerians’ increasing discontent with the present administration will push them to choose an alternative party.
He hammered home the point that the party has to work on its organization and credibility in order to win over people.
Okonkwo claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has the potential to be a strong contender in the 2027 elections if its members can overcome internal divisions and regroup.
In his view, the All Progressives Congress (APC) may pose a greater threat to the ruling party and provide Nigerians with a fresh start if it were to consolidate and become more powerful.
