Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could have considered offering its presidential and vice-presidential tickets to him and Peter Obi, given the level of support and influence they brought to the party during their time there.
In a video posted on his verified X account on June 11, 2026, Kwankwaso reflected on his experience within the ADC, saying that several issues raised by him and his political associates were not properly addressed by the party leadership. He noted that despite their efforts and contributions, concerns they considered important remained unresolved.
Kwankwaso explained that the entry of himself and Peter Obi into the ADC generated widespread attention and attracted many supporters to the party. According to him, their presence significantly increased public interest in the organisation and contributed to a rise in membership.
He further claimed that when both politicians later left the ADC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a large number of supporters moved with them. He added that the migration of supporters has continued, demonstrating what he described as the strength of their political following and influence.
The former governor argued that the party leadership should have taken into account the political value and grassroots support he and Obi contributed to the ADC. He suggested that a proper assessment of the political realities at the time might have encouraged the party to entrust them with its highest electoral positions.
Speaking on the matter, Kwankwaso said, “What is wrong in telling us to take the tickets? When we moved to ADC, everybody was moving to the ADC. When we left the ADC and moved to the NDC, the people moved and they are still moving. So, if they had known the realities and they wanted to go by them, maybe they would have initiated that ADC should give us the tickets.”
His remarks highlighted his belief that the party may have missed an opportunity by not recognising the momentum generated by his alliance with Obi. Kwankwaso maintained that their popularity and ability to attract supporters should have been considered in decisions regarding the party’s presidential and vice-presidential nominations. He also encouraged viewers to watch the relevant portion of the video to better understand the context of his comments.
