As reported by Daily Post, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Solomon Dalung, a leader in the African Democratic Congress, accused Peter Obi of prioritizing his own ambitions over the collective welfare of Nigerians after leaving the ADC coalition.
Dalung expressed that the coalition was formed to confront what he termed careless political leadership, arrogance from those in power, and an increasing entitlement mentality among political figures.
He pointed out that Obi’s choice to exit the coalition indicated that his desire for the presidency had taken precedence over the shared effort to tackle the challenges facing Nigerians.
The former minister remarked that numerous politicians within the coalition had set aside their own aspirations to foster a united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. He questioned why certain leaders were hesitant to make similar sacrifices for the sake of unity.
Dalung asserted that Obi’s current behavior mirrored the political approach that many in the opposition had condemned in President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress. Despite the recent shifts in the political landscape, Dalung affirmed that the ADC remains more robust than other opposition groups.
He insisted that the party is still well-positioned to compete for power in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, noting that the ADC continues to gain backing from various political factions and remains the key opposing force to watch as the elections approach.
“The same principles upheld by Tinubu have now been echoed by Peter Obi, as he has demonstrated that it is ultimately about him and his quest for the presidency, rather than the needs of Nigerians who are suffering,” he stated.
