BREAKING: Trump Says U.S. Now ‘Dealing With the People in Charge’ of Iran Amid Rising Tensions

According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Friday, April 24, 2026, Trump has indicated what he called a potential opening for talks between the two nations by saying that Washington is now interacting directly with Iran’s present leadership.

During a phone conversation with Reuters, Trump mentioned that US officials are currently in contact with Tehran’s top leaders, implying that channels of communication have been set up at a high level. He went on to say that he is hopeful Iran is working on a solution to meet important US demands.

“We’ll have to see,” Trump replied, suggesting that Washington is waiting for additional details before deciding what to do next.

The president’s remarks coincide with an era of increased diplomatic engagement. On a wider regional tour that will also take him to Russia and Oman, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has touched down in Islamabad, Pakistan. During the visit, there will likely be discussions about recent events in the region as well as possible mediation between US representatives and other parties.

Even while Trump’s comments hint at a new beginning in talks, Iranian officials and allied media have openly rejected any suggestion of direct contact. The White House’s claims that Tehran wanted to meet with Trump in person have been disputed by the Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The agency stated that Iran has spurned US overtures and has not sought conversations, so Washington is exaggerating the situation. What it called “longstanding grievances over American policies” were the source of this attitude.

The news source stated, “Iran has not made any request to talk with the Americans.” It went on to say that Tehran has “completely rejected the requests of the Americans for negotiations” up to this point.

It went on to say that the current situation is not conducive to negotiations, citing what it referred to as US “excesses” as the reason.
