In a recent interview shared by TVC News, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Austin Okai, raised strong concerns over the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the party’s internal affairs, alleging bias and misrepresentation.
“The position of INEC raises serious concerns, they are trying to recognize a non-existent issue in ADC,” Okai stated, as he criticized the electoral body’s handling of the party’s leadership dispute.
Okai argued that the issues being acknowledged by INEC do not reflect the reality within the party, insisting that there is no legitimate internal division as being portrayed. According to him, the narrative of crisis within the ADC is being exaggerated and given undue legitimacy by external actors.
He further emphasized that the commission, as an independent electoral body, is expected to remain neutral and avoid actions that could be interpreted as interference in party matters. Okai warned that any perceived bias could undermine public confidence in the democratic process.
The ADC chieftain maintained that the party has continued to follow due process in its activities, including its convention and internal structures, despite the controversies surrounding its leadership. He stressed that attempts to elevate what he described as “non-existent issues” could distract from more pressing national concerns.
