The forum of Zamfara workers has accused Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of failing to pay civil servants’ salaries for eight months, describing the alleged delay as “wickedness beyond governance.”
In a statement on Wednesday, the forum’s Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Marafa, said the governor’s actions were causing hardship for workers and their families. He added that some affected families were struggling to afford basic needs, while children were reportedly being forced out of school.
“This is not leadership, it is sheer wickedness. How can a governor deny innocent workers their hard-earned salaries for eight months and instead of showing compassion, choose to throw them into the streets?” Marafa said.
The forum also raised concerns over the health and wellbeing of workers, calling the situation a humanitarian crisis. It urged the Federal Government, labour unions, and civil rights organisations to intervene.
“Governor Dauda Lawal Dare has failed the basic test of humanity. Leadership is about responsibility and compassion, not oppression,” the statement added.
The Zamfara Good Governance Forum reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of the affected workers until “justice and accountability are restored” in the state.
