Yobe Police takes action amid school closure, gives fresh directives

The Yobe State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state following the temporary closure of all boarding schools by the state government as a proactive safety measure.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, announced the new security measures after convening a strategic security conference with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments and members of the Command’s management team.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture in response to emerging threats, particularly around schools and critical public infrastructure.

During the conference, CP Ado issued operational directives for the immediate deployment of enhanced security strategies across schools, public facilities and communities in the state. He directed DPOs and tactical commanders to develop detailed action plans and deepen engagement with community leaders, vigilante groups and neighbourhood watch associations to ensure inclusive and effective security coverage.

The police commissioner also emphasized the importance of intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration and early-warning mechanisms.

He also ordered the strengthening of visibility policing, intensive patrols, night detachments and rapid-response operations to ensure quick intervention in the event of kidnapping, insurgency or other criminal threats.
