
The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the immediate release of ₦2.1 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities owed to retired local government workers covering the period January 2020 to May 2025.
The approval was contained in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement the Governor further directed that gratuity payments be integrated into the Local Government monthly financial schedule, ensuring that future retirement benefits are paid regularly and without backlog, alongside pensions.
“On behalf of the state government. I described the move as a demonstration of the Governor’s compassionate and people-centered leadership, aimed at providing financial relief and dignity to senior citizens.
“The Ministry has commenced arrangements for the transparent and immediate disbursement of the approved funds to all eligible retirees”, the Commissioner said.
He said the initiative forms part of the Governor’s broader agenda to strengthen fiscal responsibility and enhance the welfare of citizens who have contributed to the state’s growth and development.
