Wolves Coach Hails Arokodare After Chelsea Goal, Olayinka Departs Red Star Belgrade

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has hailed Super Eagles’ forward, Tolu Arokodare, for his impressive showing in the club’s narrow 4-3 defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Tolu Arokodare led a spirited fightback for the home side after they went into the break three goals down at Molineux.

The Nigerian international struck in the 47th minute to cut the deficit, scoring his second goal of the competition and giving Wolves a lifeline in what turned into a thrilling contest.

Speaking after the game, Pereira said he was pleased with Arokodare’s progress and growing confidence within the squad.

“It’s normal because now he has more training with us. His fitness is better now than before, he understands what we need from him, and he is more connected with his teammates and he is ready to help us,” Pereira told the club’s official website.

While the result was a disappointment for Wolves, the Portuguese manager’s comments suggested he was encouraged by the energy and attitude his side showed in the second half, particularly from Arokodare.

In a separate development, fellow Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka has parted ways with Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade after requesting to terminate his contract.

The club confirmed Olayinka’s departure on Thursday, ending his stay just over a year after he joined from Czech side Slavia Prague in 2023.

Olayinka had enjoyed a successful run at Slavia Prague, scoring 14 goals in 46 league games, but struggled to find regular playing time in Belgrade.

The 29-year-old is now a free agent and available to sign for a new club.
