We won’t allow IPOB sit-at-home in Delta, police chief fumes

The Commissioner of Police in Delta, Ari Ali, has reassured residents of the state of adequate security of lives and property.

Mr Ali gave the assurance while confirming the killing of a Dangote truck driver by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that Delta was not part of the South-East zone of the country, adding that the sit-at-home order could not be enforced in Delta.

“We are not going to allow any hoodlum under the guise of IPOB or ESN to come to Delta. In the first place, Delta is not part of the country’s South-Eastern region.

“On Monday and Tuesday, we were all out. Today (Wednesday), at about 6:00 a.m., I got information that somewhere at the outskirt of Asaba on the way to Ugbolu community IPOB blocked the road.

“Before my men arrived there, they had deserted the place, and consequently, my men went round Ugbolu community in search of the hoodlums, all to no avail.

“Only the driver was killed, the others ran into the bush and found their way to the police station at Ugbolu hale and healthy. Two vehicles were set ablaze while one tricycle was burnt beyond recognition,” he said.

He said that the hoodlums expected that residents in Delta would not be on the street, noting that people were going about doing their normal businesses unhindered and molested.

Mr Ali also said that there was a robust partnership between the police command and the various communities in Delta, leading to less damage in the incident.

He commended the residents for divulging helpful information to the police and solicited a sustained relationship.
