Cameroonian Militants Invade Nigeria, Gun Down 20

Militants of Ambazonia, a separatist group in South West Cameroon, have killed at least 20 people in a community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Chief Cletus Obun, a former member of Cross River House of Assembly and an aspirant of House of Reps for Boki/Ikom federal constituency, confirmed the incident, saying it happened on Sunday.

“I can confirm that the Ambazonian soldiers crossed the Nigerian border Sunday morning to attack their compatriots who fled into Nigeria and refused to join their forces to fight.”

“They killed nearly 20. No one is sure yet if amongst those killed, there are Nigerian citizens.”

He said the remaining Cameroonians who also speak Bokye language of Boki people have now flooded Bashu community, not far from Danare, where Nigerian troops have a small camp.

Ambazonian militants regularly saunter into the Boki, where there are many Cameroonians, to wreak havoc or unwind.

When contacted, Information officer of 13 Brigade of Nigerian Army Calabar, Captain Tope Aluko, said they were yet to confirm the latest attack, which happened six months after a similar invasion in Taraba State.

Elumelu Congratulates Atiku

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu has congratulated former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on his election as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections.

He also commended all the other presidential aspirants at the PDP National Convention “for their courage, patriotism and remarkable spirit of sportsmanship which they displayed throughout the consultation period up to the National Convention.”

Elumelu in a statement issued on Saturday said there was no gainsaying the fact that all the presidential aspirants were eminently qualified and that their aspirations were driven by patriotism in line with the mission of the PDP to rescue the nation from “the catastrophic misrule of the vicious, corrupt and incompetent All Progressives Congress (APC).”

He said, “The emergence of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, with his excellent performance record and unmatched popularity across the nation, signals the beginning of PDP’s historic journey back to power in 2023 to commence the process of rescuing, reuniting, redirecting and rebuilding our nation from the ashes of the misrule of the APC led government.”

Bauchi civil unrest: Gov Mohammed preaches peace, tolerance

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Sunday visited Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis where two rival groups clashed on Friday evening, leading to the death of three persons, with five houses, three vehicles and a number of motorcycles burnt and urged the people to embrace peace at all times as well as tolerate one another.

Speaking at Lukshi where the crisis started, Governor Mohammed regretted the unfortunate incident and said that his administration would establish a police outpost in the areas to further provide security to the people.

He assured that the state government would take full inventory of all the losses recorded during the unfortunate clash in order to provide palliative measures to the affected people, adding that security agents would soon arrest those responsible for the clash.

Governor Mohammed enjoined people in the affected areas to live in peace and equally be their brothers’ keepers, irrespective of any differences.

The governor admonished parents and guardians to ensure proper upbringing of their children and wards.

Thugs invade APC collation centre in Otukpo, injure many

The Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, Electoral Committee for Benue South, Hon. Moses Mkeenem, has raised the alarm over the invasion of the election collation centre in Otukpo, Benue State.

Hon. Mkeenem said the thugs believed to be loyal to one of the aspirants in the election, invaded the premises, brandishing guns, machetes and other lethal weapons.

The chairman said it took the assiduous intervention of security operatives present at the venue, for him to exit the premises of Apa Gate Hotel successfully.

He said the driver of the committee, Mr. Iorakaa was not so lucky as he was brutalized by the thugs.

Mkeenem said his car key was also snatched away from his drivers by the thugs.
