Buhari backs southern candidate for president

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has endorsed a power shift to the South in 2023.

He made this known at a dinner with All Progressives Congress presidential aspirants in Abuja.

APC Screening Committee Ranks Osinbajo on Top

The Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential screening committee may have ranked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo top of the 23 aspirants jostling to secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election.

The committee had announced that it cleared 13 of the aspirants to contest the primaries due to hold on Monday and Tuesday but was mum on the fate of the others.

An authoritative source hinted that what the committee did was to score the aspirants based on its criteria and the Vice President emerged top.

Northern APC govs back power shift to South

All Progressives Congress Governors from the Northern part of the country have backed the transfer of power to the South.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the governors on Saturday night in Abuja.

The Northern governors also asked aspirants from the northern region to withdraw.

4 killed, over 200 injured as container depot catches fire in Bangladesh

At least four people were killed and more than 200 others injured as a fire broke out at a container depot in Bangladesh’s southern port city of Chattogram on Saturday, a doctor said.

The fire erupted at around 11:00 p.m. local time (1700GMT) in the city’s Sitakunda area.

“Casualties may rise as more injured people are being rushed to the hospital,” Dr. Ilias Chowdhury, civil surgeon of Chattogram district, told Anadolu Agency.
